Tomas Malajevas – sax
Tomas Malajevas is a Lithuanian musician, currently living in Copenhagen. He studied at Klaipeda E. Balsys gymnasium of arts. In 1993 he moved to Kaliningrad Russia where he began studying rhythmic music at S. Rachmaninov Music College. During a tour of “Swinging Europe Big Band” in 1998,in Kaliningrad, he was introduced to musicians from Copenhagen and offered to study in Rhythmic Music Conservatory . In 2000 he received a price at the International Jazz Soloist Competition in Klaipėda. In 2001 Tomas moved to Copenhagen and graduated from Rhythmic Music Conservatory in 2007. Since he moved to Denmark, he has played with musicians like Jesper Loevdal, Graig Earl, Bo Rande , Morten Haesum, Lars Tormod Jenset, Andreas Fryland, Janus Templeton, Thomas Caudery, Rasmus Nygaard, Anders Provis etc. and was involved in various projects as sideman and soloist: Django Bates big band “Storm Chasers”, Kevin Brow quintet , RMC “Frank Zappa” big band, “Gregavishnu” band, Casper Mikkelsen Collective, Exploding Frogs, Mikkel Ploug Pedersen quartet etc. Composing is another big part of his musical work. In 2007 he formed a trio with Canadian drummer Kevin Brow and Norwegian organist Steinar Nickelsen in which his original music is performed. He also had a lot of help from teachers like Steve Coleman, Chris Speed, Tim Berne, and Django Bates whom have helped shape his musical approach.
